The Geffen Playhouse honors legendary stage and screen performer Dick Van Dyke and award-winning composer, lyricist, and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda at its 16th annual Backstage at the Geffen fundraiser. The event recognizes the accomplishments of leaders in the artistic community, supports the Geffen's mission to produce original, quality work, and raises funds for the theater's award-winning education and community engagement programs, which bring live theater to more than 15,000 disadvantaged youth, seniors, and veterans annually. This star-studded event is an evening of unscripted, surprise performers and storytellers sharing songs and personal tales of life behind the scenes.
Show begins when the director asks the audience to suggest a popular film title and then the cast, right there on the spot, improvise the "black version" of that film complete with its improvised soundtrack, dance numbers, DVD extras, audition reels & more.
The Black Version is a completely improvised show that started at The Groundlings Theatre in LA in 2010 to sold out crowds and great reviews. Rolling Stone magazine calls the show "Hot" and the cast a "Comedic A-Team", LA Weekly says the show is "Red Hot" and "Scores more than it's share of belly laughs" while the LA Times calls the show "A Winner"!

The show features a live band, rotating program and special celebrity guests. The producers intend to continue the show on a weekly basis at W Hollywood.

Experience the life and music of the "Man in Black." A fun, toe-tapping trip down memory lane honoring Johnny Cash's life, music, and the boom-chicka-boom sound of his signature backing band, the Tennessee Three.
Sarah Boone lights up Vitello's stage with the West Coast premiere of her new show paying homage to the fair-haired leading ladies of classic film musicals. It's an evening of musical treasures first introduced by Jane Powell, Judy Holliday, Ginger Rogers, Shirley Jones, Debbie Reynolds, Betty Grable, Alice Faye, Betty Hutton, and Doris Day. These fascinating and glamorous stars sang and danced their way into America's mid-20th-century heart and, in the process, influenced generations of future entertainers. So, throw back with Sarah, who's a bit (okay, a lot) retro and a huge fan of those other blondes, as she shares their songs in this loving tribute with soul, humor, joy, sophistication, and a heckuva lot of moxie.
