WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Leonard Bernstein's Candide, based on Voltaire's satirical tale, fuses Broadway flash and operatic virtuosity. Its quicksilver overture, dazzling coloratura soprano aria "Glitter and Be Gay," sardonic "Auto-da-fé" chorus, and deeply moving "Make Our Garden Grow" finale are highlights of an ebullient and irresistible work. Performed by first-rate guest artists and the Orchestra of St. Luke's, this concert production of Candide celebrates of the Bernstein centenary. Paul Appleby stars in the title role alongside Erin Morley as Cunegonde, Patricia Racette as the Old Lady, William Burden as Governor, and John Lithgow as Voltaire/Dr. Pangloss. Gary Griffin (Honeymoon in Vegas) directs, with Rob Fisher (Guys and Dolls) as musical director and Joshua Bergasse (On the Town) as choreographer.
