Tina Fey Bumps Into African Mean Girls Play Cast and More at Drama Desk Reception

The worlds of Broadway, off-Broadway, and off-off-Broadway collided at this week's meet-the-nominees event.

"This is an exciting day because it's when everybody comes together," enthused Carousel Drama Desk nominee Jessie Mueller at the awards' 2018 meet-the-press reception. The event, which took place May 9 at Friedmans at the Edison, hosted a room full of luminaries, including Nathan Lane, Billy Crudup, and LaChanze. Also on hand was Tina Fey, nominated for Outstanding Book of a Musical for Mean Girls. The writer rubbed shoulders with not only her own cast but also the Drama Desk Ensemble Award-winning cast of off-Broadway's School Girls; or, The African Mean Girls Play — and got their names for her cease-and-desist order.
