The Broadway League has announced that, due to community support, the Committee of Theatre Owners has decided to dim the lights of all Broadway theaters on Friday, September 21, at exactly 6:45pm for one minute in honor of three-time Tony Award nominee and Theater Hall of Fame inductee Marin Mazzie, who passed away on Thursday, September 13, at the age of 57.

The initial announcement stated that only the Al Hirschfeld, Broadhurst, Gershwin, Gerald Schoenfeld, St. James, and Nederlander Theatres would dim their lights in Mazzie's memory. The theater community immediately began speaking out on social media requesting that all Broadway theaters participate, given Mazzie's celebrated stage career.

Mazzie was nominated for three Tony Awards for her performances in Passion (1994), Ragtime (1998), and Kiss Me, Kate (2000). Her other Broadway credits include Big River, Into the Woods, Man of La Mancha, Spamalot, Next to Normal, Enron, Bullets Over Broadway, and The King and I, in which she replaced Kelli O'Hara as Anna Leonowens in 2016 following her initial treatment for ovarian cancer.
